I read this quote today and loved it. Unfortunately I’m unable to credit as I couldn’t find an author:
“When faced with two choices, simply toss a coin. It works, not because it settles the question for you, But because in that brief moment when the coin is in the air You suddenly know what you’re hoping for.”
Ever had a massive amount of stuff to pack but only a teensy little bag to pack it in? This guy’s uber impressive packing technique is for you!
I have been feeling a weensy bit fat lately, but with all my sleep deprivation and stress I NEED comfort food. What’s a girl to do? Martha Stewart to the rescue!
Well the Christmas crazies are finally over and I have 10 minutes to breathe and write a blog post! Here’s what I’m lovin’ this week:
Pay Day – Ahhh this Christmas business has sent me broke!! But HURRAH for TODAY IS PAY DAY!!! This means my little family and I will get to eat more than dust bunnies for a few days which is always nice.
Christmas – I love, love, LOVE Christmas! Who doesn’t though, really? Friends, family, food and fun! While a snuggly Christmas around a fire does have it’s own appeal, I think Christmas in Australia is the ultimate. Check out my Aussie Christmas blog post.
Return to Work Anticipation – A weird thing to be excited about I know but I’m seriously missing regular interaction with adults and, more importantly, wearing heels during the day!!!! I’m going to miss Ryan so, so, so much though and don’t know how I’m going to stand being without him for 8 hours a day, 3 days a week but I think it will be good in the long run.
Photos – In the past week I have created a framed photo wall, had two canvases printed, sat through a Santa portrait with a cranky baby and had professional photos taken of my little man. I just want to document as many memories as possible. I can’t wait until he is older and we can share them together.
YouTube – I’ve got soooo many ideas for videos that aren’t as boring as my current ones but absolutely no time to make them! Ahhh the frustration. I am loving watching other people’s videos through. Always a good way to kill time.
moustaches ♥ soooo many Christmas presents ♥ Sailor Moon ♥ new shoes ♥ Pokemon ♥ New Years anticipation ♥ homemade pizzas ♥ learning to crochet ♥ making my gorgeous son laugh his little head off ♥ trying out new recipes ♥ boxing day sales ♥ having a nice clean house for the first time in ages! ♥ and of course, my perfect boyfriend and beautiful baby boy
Southern hemisphere Christmases are very different to northern hemisphere Christmases. I’ve never experienced a northern hemisphere Christmas for myself but from what I can see the main differences are as follows:
Our Friends Up There (i.e. northern hemisphere dwellers)
Us Guys (i.e. southern hemisphere dwellers)
Spend the day indoors to escape the cold
Spend the day outdoors in the sweltering heat, only venturing inside if there is no pool and air con is required to avoid heat stroke
Eat big fat turkey buffet dinners with Christmas cake and plum pudding
Eat big fat cold ham buffet lunches with pavlova and wine trifle
Wear thick woollen jumpers with various Christmas patterns knitted on them
Wear singlets and short shorts with various NRL team flags embroidered on them
Drink copious amounts of eggnog
Drink copious amounts of beer
Of course there are also major similarities - family, fun, food and presents! Luckily, these are the most important and lovely parts of Christmas!
This Christmas I had such a fabulous time. In fact, this was by far the best Christmas season I have had since I was about 12. There were several reasons for this:
Santa photos – As it was my beautiful baby boy’s very first Christmas I just HAD to dress him up and take him to the shops for a Santa photo. No matter what I did he didn’t smile at all for Santa but it’s still a pretty cute shot.
The “Christmas lights” house – This year a house in Forrest, not 20 mins away from my own house, won the Guinness World Record for the most Christmas lights in a residential property. My little family and I went out to have a look and IT WAS AMAZING!!!! Over 330,000 lights made the place like a Christmas fairy wonderland. It got you into the Christmas spirit immediately when you walked in. There were soooo many people there that we had to park two streets away and walk up. It’s also a very inspiring story. It would have cost the family thousands and thousands for the entire set up and I can’t even imagine what their electricity bill is! They do it all for the people and only ask for a gold coin donation to enter. Even more amazingly, they don’t keep the money! Every single cent is donated to the SIDS and Kids foundation! Such lovely people.
Christmas Eve party – This year my Super Mum had a party at her place for Christmas Eve. My boyfriend, Mitch; my baby, Ryan; my sister, Sarah; her partner, Ian; my brother, Ben; his partner, Amie; Mitch’s Mum, Margi; my best friend, Mell and her boyfriend, Michael were all there with me :-) We had a wonderful night eating, drinking, talking and playing games.
Family and friends – Christmas Day was a mad rush around. My little family and I woke up at my Super Mum’s place, then after presents with the family and a quick breakfast it was off to Yass for lunch with Mitch’s Dad’s family and his little brother. Lots of beer, lots of food and lots of presents later we were on our way back to Canberra for Christmas dinner with my Dad and siblings. A day full of too much food, too much alcohol and WAYYYYY too many presents. It was exhausting but absolutely magnificent :-) I’m so glad that Ryan was able to spend his first Christmas with all of his grandparents too!
Having kids – Children bring a renewed sense of excitement to Christmas. Even though Ryan is only 5 months old and has no idea what Christmas is at the moment, seeing the smile on his little face as he played with relatives he doesn’t get to see enough and the way his little, chubby arms reach out for new toys makes an already wonderful day just that much better.
Presents – OMG! I was soooo unbelievably spoilt this year. I know that everyone says that every year but I really was. I don’t know anyone that got as many presents as I did… except maybe Mitch (he got more, I think). I also really love giving presents. I put a lot of thought into my presents and love the whole giving process. It is so rewarding to see someone unwrap the paper on a gift you gave them and watching their faces! I must admit, I do get really nervous that the recipient won’t like what I bought them. Even if they don’t like it though, seeing them act so polite about it is always a crack up!
I just love Christmas in Australia. It really is a perfect day. Everyone forgets all of their worries and troubles and differences and get together to make the day wonderful.
When I was younger I used to always say “fank f*ck it’s Friday!” I thought it was cute to have baby talk right next to a swear word (clearly I was a total bad ass – haha!). In hindsight, it really wasn’t that cute… However, I’ve decided to use it as the title of my new regular Friday posts. Basically I’m gonna sum up anything that I’ve found interesting this week and any other random crap I feel like sharing.
Since my regular readers rarely leave comments *hint hint* I’m only going to be able to talk about what I find interesting instead of what you want. If you’re feeling friendly, speak up! I’m happy to oblige.
I’m going to start this FFIF with a rant… my blog stats say that I get on average about 180-300 hits from different computers a day, mainly from USA and Australia. Why is it that you guys keep coming back and back to hear me crap on about my own life and stuff but you so rarely talk to me!?
In other news I have managed to do a whole heap this week. I’ve made a massive amount of triple-chocolate cupcakes and decorated them with an even more massive amount of biscuits, I’ve sat through two portrait sittings of my gorgeous baby boy AND managed to spend over $900 on the resulting photos (isn’t the one below just precious though?!), I’ve mounted nine picture frames, I’ve redecorated my Christmas tree, I’ve downloaded legally purchased *cough cough* what seems like a billion movies for my boyfriend, and perhaps most impressively, I’ve completed about 90% of my Christmas shopping!!!
Anyways, enough about me, here are some things I’ve come across this week I thought y’all would find interestin’ (I’m feeling a little hill billy at the moment):
PickPunch – A great Christmas gift for all of those cool little brothers who play the guitar… well here is hoping anyway because it’s what I got my brother!
How cute is this little snail? Awwww….
Bahahahaha, this post from The Frogman cracks me up
